WHAT EMPLOYEES WANT
The vast majority of people in private sector firms want to continue to develop professionally and believe that they have yet to achieve their potential at work, according to an online survey we commissioned from OnePoll in February 2009.
The questionnaire was completed by more than 4,700 employees.
- 92% reported that ongoing learning and development was important to them
- 77% would like to have more opportunities to develop at work and believe they have yet to achieve their full potential in the workplace
But the research also showed that employer’s commitment to training is on the wane.
Only 48% of employers now offer on-the-job training specific to job roles a 24% drop since our similar poll last year.
We believe that cutting back on training during a period of economic unrest is short-sighted
It’s crucial that businesses continue to invest in the skills and talent of their people so they have the staff with the right skills in place for the economic upturn.
